Calçotada is back at Brindisa Tapas this February

Join us for the return of Calçotada to Richmond, a cherished Catalan tradition that celebrates the humble yet delicious calçot, a sweet and tender variety of onion. This lively feast is more than just a meal—it’s a time-honoured way to bring people together over incredible food and the joy of the changing seasons.

Calçotada marks the arrival of spring in Catalonia, bidding farewell to winter with the smoky flavours of fire-roasted calçots, vibrant sauces, and an atmosphere of pure celebration.

Discover the tradition of the Calçotada

The calçot, a member of the onion family, is a regional treasure of Catalonia, proudly holding Protected Geographical Status (PGI). Larger than spring onions and harvested from late winter through early spring, calçots are a beloved seasonal delicacy, prized for their smoky, slightly sweet flavour that develops when cooked over an open flame.

Traditionally, calçots are charred on the BBQ, wrapped in newspaper to keep them warm, and served with a rich, tangy Romesco sauce for dipping. At Brindisa Tapas, they’ll take center stage as part of a 3-course meal featuring a selection of classic dishes, including Parrillada mixta, Escalivada (flame-roasted vegetables), baked potatoes, and crema Catalana.
